Novak Djokovic wins first match in 2022 against Musetti in Dubai

Novak Djokovic played his first match in 2022 at the Dubai Tennis Championships and he was victorious defeating Musetti 6-3 6-3.

The long-anticipated return of Novak Djokovic to the courts happened about a month later than he would have liked. Initially slated to play at the Australian Open, Djokovic had to wait nearly two months in order to play some competitive tennis. His first match came in Dubai against a very tricky opponent who troubled him the last time they played.

This time around Musetti was not able to trouble Djokovic too much as the conditions favoured the Serbian. Nonetheless, it wasn't some superb display from Djokovic where he utterly thrashed his opponent. It was a match where he showed that he is still good at what he does despite coming off of a long layoff. Djokovic was very good on his serve.

It wasn't perfect as he had to save three break points but he saved all of them. He dropped only four points on his first serve and overall it was more than enough for the 6-3 1st set finish. In the 2nd set, Djokovic served a bit worse but still controlled the match rather well. Once again he had to save break points but he was able to stay perfect on that.

Musetti applied a bit more pressure on Djokovic but he was never able to wrestle control of the match away from the Serbian. Novak did just enough to win this match in straight sets and we should see him improved with each match as he finds his rhytm more.
