Novak Djokovic is still world number one but this might be the final week he is because Daniil Medvedev has never been closer and the Russian has a chance to overtake Djokovic this week.
This will be a very important week in the career of Daniil Medvedev. The Russian is only trailing Djokovic by about 400 points which is the least amount he has trailed him ever. He has control over who sits on top of the rankings next Monday with the Russian needing to win the Acapulco tennis event in order to become world number one.
Djokovic spoke about it in a recent interview admitting that Medvedev deserves it and he would congratulate him. When it comes to the rest of the top 10, there hasn't been any changes. Zverev is 3rd, Tsitsipas is 4th, Nadal is 5th, Berrettini is 6th, Rublev is 7th and Ruud is 8th. Carlos Alcaraz won the Rio Open and jumped 9 spots to number 20 making his top 20 debut.
Dominic Thiem continues to slide on the rankings with the Austrian now outside of the top 50 at number 52. Francisco Cerundolo had a strong showing in Rio and the Argentine jumped 24 spots to number 76. Several players raeched a new career high including Fritz at 16, Opelka at 18, Alcaraz at 20, Bublik at 30, Paul at 39, Griekspoor at 57, Molcan at 69, Cerundolo at 76, Majchrzak at 77, Otte at 82 and Lehecka at 92.
