Victoria Azarenka saw off
Yulia Putintseva to begin her Qatar TotalEnergies Open campaign on Sunday evening but the main talking point was the drama which ensued between the players.
Putintseva started to get frustrated and began throwing racquets much to the dismay of Azarenka which was mainly due to the Belarusian coming from 4-0 down to level at 4-4 in the third set before calling a trainer.
“Before my serve, she can do that. What’s the problem? She has to wait for me to serve. She threw her racquet, like, 7 times. Four, four is okay. She needs a mental coach, she needs a psychiatrist," said the former multiple Grand Slam champion.
Her ascendancy continued as she went on to win the third set 7-5 and the handshake was icy between the pair also as Vika moves through to face Madison Brengle.
