Roger
Federer jokes about
Carlos Alcaraz’s bow tie at the
Laver Cup. A video captured by Laver Cup
cameras shows the 20-time Grand Slam champion helping ‘Carlitos’ with his bow
tie during the gala before the tournament.
The retired
Swiss tennis player continues giving lessons to the new generation of players,
though this time it was off the court. Federer has been close to the players
during the past few days in Berlin, and Alcaraz shared a heartwarming moment
with the 8-time Wimbledon champion.

During the
gala before the tournament's start, Team Europe and Team World gathered for
official photos with their players and captains. Alcaraz struggled with his bow
tie just before the photo was taken, and it was none other than Federer who
stepped in to help: "Oh my God, Carlos' bow tie was so out of place, I
needed to fix it!" joked the former world No. 1.
"Ties and bow ties
are an issue for the players, it took me a while," said Federer. "I
wasn’t fully prepared for this sort of red carpet stuff when I was 20,"
the Swiss legend added. "I just want to feel comfortable in my clothes at
home."
Federer
admitted that he watched some of the official photos from his hotel room,
reminiscing about his playing days: "So funnily enough, I was looking out
from my hotel room down onto the photo shoot, filming and taking
pictures," he said. "Those were great times, being with the guys down
there. We actually just saw each other at the gala here as I arrived."
The Swiss
Maestro delighted fans on Berlin's Centre Court by picking up a racket and
playing in front of the crowd: "So actually, it was amazing to be back on
centre court and just playing," Federer commented. "That was fun. It
made me feel, why not play a match? It would be so much fun. But then I am
happy that I am not playing anymore."
"I’ve
been playing a lot this summer, so it has been wonderful being back on the
court with my kids and friends," the 3-time Laver Cup champion said.
"The weather has been good, so it’s easier to play in the summer,
wonderful to play."
