4 French players will be trying to reach semifinals during day 5 in Montpellier, including first-seeded Gael Monfils.
Only 8 players left at the 2020
Open Sud de France. After 3rd-seeded Shapovalov and no. 4, Dimitrov lost their 2nd round matches,
Gael Monfils and
David Goffin remained the only 2 players from the TOP 6 seeds.
Gregoire Barrere and the seventh-seeded Filip Krajinovic will kick-off the fifth day in Montpellier. The Serbian was successful in his previous two appearances at the 2020 Open Sud de France when he defeated both Couacaud and Ymer without losing a set. On the other hand, Barrere defeated Sousa in the first round and then 4th seeded Dimitrov.
Another home player Richard Gasquet will be facing Vasek Pospisil in the 2nd quarterfinal match. Pospisil defeated Bedene and Shapovalov without losing a set. Gasquet outplayed his countryman Simon in the first round and he also went through Lopez in the 2nd.
The first-seeded
Gael Monfils will be facing Slovakia's Norbert Gombos in the quarterfinals. The player from Slovakia defeated Carreno-Busta and Ruusuvuori in the previous two matches. Thanks to being the no. 1 seed in Montpellier, Monfils had to play only one match. He outplayed Mannarino in the second round in three sets.
The second-seeded Goffin played also only 1 match at the 2020 Open Sud de France.
He defeated Alexander Bublik in his only appearance in just two sets. However, Pierre-Hugues Herbert is in stunning form in Montpellier as he defeated both Stakhovsky and Auger-Aliassime without losing a set. These players met a few weeks ago
when Goffin defeated Herbert at the 2020 Australian Open.
