Rafael Nadal demonstrated once more he has the makeup of a champion with a tremendous comeback against Daniil Medvedev.
The Spaniard was trailing two sets to love with Medvedev having a couple of break points in the 3rd. As John McEnroe put it, Medvedev choked in the 3rd set giving Nadal a lifeline who continued applying pressure and ultimately pulling away with the match. Like many, Greg Rusedkis was left in awe of the fighting spirit Nadal displayed once more, against a player that is almost a decade younger than him.
He said:
"Rafa's incredible mental fortitude is astonishing. He becomes the first male tennis player to win his 21st slam. A comeback for the history books."
The comeback win was not a smooth one as Nadal got nervous at the end failing to serve out the match on his first try. He got another chance and this time finished it off. He himself admitted:
“It was one of the most emotional matches of my career."
