11th-seeded team Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury triumphed in men's doubles at the 2020 Australian Open after defeating Max Purcell and Luke Saville in the final.
It was a dream run in Melbourne for players who will become no. 4 and 5 in doubles ranking next week. Ram & Salisbury were the only seeded team that was consistent and unlike the others, they did not lose to unseeded pairs. In the final, they faced home wild-cards, Max Purcell and Luke Saville.
En route to the final, Ram & Salisbury outplayed Evans/Smith, Sandgren/Withrow,
Granollers/Zeballos, Kontinen/Stuff and
Bublik/Kukushkin who were the only ones to win the set against the champions.
Despite the dream run of the Aussie team and great support in Rod Laver Arena, they did not have enough chances to overpower Ram & Salisbury. During the final, 2020 Australian Open champions did not allow their opponents to have a single breakpoint. On the other hand, they had 12 out of which they converted 3. That gave them a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 victory.
