Raonic and Karen Khachaov advanced to the
St. Petersburg Open quarterfinals after victories over Karatsev and Bublik.
Karen Khachanov had to fight back against Aslan Karatsev in order to reach the next round of the St. Petersburg Open. The match lasted well over two hours and the final result was 4-6 7-5 6-3. The first set wasn't very good by Khachanov who played decent enough. But he also surrendered his serve twice in the set which allowed Karatsev to win it 6-4
After the initial set loss, Khachanov started playing much better. He served much better in the 2nd set not allowing Karatsev a single breakpoint. Karatsev responded with solid serving on his own as Karen only broke him very late in the set to clinch it 7-5. Karatsev only allowed two break points but it was more than enough for Khachanov. That lost set didn't break Karatsev as he continued to play well in the 3rd set.
Khachanov also played well so the crucial moment came late in the set once again when Khachanov broke Karatsev at 4-3 to make it 5-3. He proceeded to end the match with 6-3. All in all a very tough match for Khachanov but he will be happy with the victory and the quarterfinal.
Milos Raonic stepped onto the courts as the last match of the day and he didn't disappoint the crowd that waited for him. Bublik is a tricky opponent capable of winning matches on hard courts against better players. Today was not that day as Raonic defeated him 6-3 6-2 in 67 minutes of play. Raonic played a near-perfect match as he hit 9 aces winning both 1st service points and 2nd service points at a great rate.
He also was very good in crucial situation saving all 4 break points Bublik and winning 3 of the 4 Bublik allowed him. All in all a great match by Raonic who looks primed for another final and title.
