Milos Raonic and Daniil Medvedev advanced to the next round of the Paris Masters following victories against Giron and De Minaur.
Milos Raonic took on Marcos Giron in a matchup where many expected a close affair. That was certainly the case in the opening set where neither player allowed the other player too much. Raonic was the better play on the court but Giron founds ways to stay in the match. We ended up in a tiebreak and Raonic fully unleashed himself winning almost all the points to seal the opening set 7-1. The 2nd set followed more or less a similar pattern as Giron halted Raonic for a while but when the Canadian broke him to take the lead it was over. Judging by the body language of Giron he was aware that he is not coming back into the match so Raonic promptly ended it with 6-2. A solid showcase for Milos who hit over 15 aces in the match and played sensational on his own serve.
The 2nd match between De Minaur and Medvedev was an interesting one. The Russian started better breaking the Australian early and taking the lead. However, Alex came back to tie the game and generally started playing better. Medvedev could not force a break point and Alex ultimately won the opening set 7-5. It was a very upsetting loss for Medvedev so he came out strong and focused in the 2nd set. He took the early lead 2-0 and only built upon it. He played better hitting his shots better and moving better. Alex tried his super fast style of ending points quickly but it didn't work. The Russian won the 2nd 6-2.
The final set more or less followed the 2nd one with Medvedev once again looked focused and slowly taking over the match. He broke Alex early to take 3-1 lead and from there it was smooth sailing. The Russian was in the zone and he took another break before ending the match with 6-2.
