Chile’s Nicolas Jarry has reportedly been withdrawn from the
upcoming Geneva Open. The competition will be played from May 19th
to 25th in Geneva, and players from all over the world will participate to prepare for the French Open, which will begin on May 26th in the
capital city of France.
According to the latest report, Jarry has withdrawn from the Geneva Open. This move is surprising, considering the Santiago-born star is going through a purple patch in his career, especially during the ongoing Rome Open. He booked his place in the semifinal of the mega-event after beating
Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last-eight clash with a score of 3-6, 7-5,
6-4.
The news will be a significant setback for the competition as Jarry was also the defending champion after lifting the title last year
by beating Grigor Dimitrov in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-1. The reason behind Jarry’s withdrawal from the competition has not been reported.
The current world number 24 is now set to face America’s Tommy Paul in the
semifinal of the Rome Open. It will be the fourth time when both players will
face off. In the previous three meetings, Paul had a slight edge as he secured
two wins and suffered just one defeat.
