Andrey Rublev has not been shy in admitting that Rafael Nadal is a great source of inspiration to him and recently he backed that up.
One of the brightest rising stars in the world of tennis has been Andrey Rublev who at the age of 23 has already 8 titles to his names. While lacking any premier title such as Grand Slam or Master's trophy he has solidified himself as one of the best. His inspiration? A man named Rafael Nadal. Speaking about Nadal recently Rublev said:
"Nadal has won 13 French Open titles. It should motivate us all to try and win it at least once."
Rublev certainly lacks no motivation which is visible in his recent meteoric rise but also his demeanor. He always underlined his inner drive and motivation that forced him to work hard without a need to be pushed by others. His aggressive playstyle is something he shares with Nadal and his tendency to never give up.
Rublev used the phrase 'fight to the end spirit' when describing Nadal and his never-give-up attitude. It is something the Russian finds deeply inspiring. On that he said:
"He is someone who will always fight to the end, no matter what. He could die on the court but he would continue to play."
Rublev is keen to implement that into his game which tends to falter off when things don't go smoothly. Just last week in Doha he crumbled against Bautista Agut in a match that he wasn't playing well at all.
If he wants to reach the highest of heights he will need to find a way to grind out matches even he is not playing well and that is something that Nadal does so well.
