Alexander Zverev uses Roger Federer as an example for messy Rankings system

Alexander Zverev used Roger Federer as an example to describe the current frozen ATP Ranking system as a mess.
The German who recently became a father is in Acapulco where he is set to play at the Abierto Mexicano Acapulco. Ahead of the event he took part in an official press conference where he touched upon the rankings:
"I am Roger’s Federer’s biggest fan. But he hasn’t played in a year and is above me in the rankings. I played a Grand Slam final, a Masters Final. Right now, the system is a mess."
And while Zverev is right in his assessment the situation is what it is and the ATP explained the reasoning behind its decision to do so. However, this was not the first time Federer's name was dragged into the ranking conversation with his name being mentioned by the head of German Tennis Federation Dirk Holdorff who claimed:
"Roger Federer simply changed the ranking method to protect himself, it is irresponsible and quite simply incorrect. In my opinion, he takes advantage of his position on the Players’ Council. It must nevertheless be said that without the change in the ranking system, Roger Federer would not be in the top 50."
That statement is probably factually correct as he did not play well over a year but those claims were shocking especially by a high-ranking member of a National Tennis Federation. For Zverev, who represents Germany officially, the ranking does not matter much as he said:
"The ranking doesn’t really matter to me and with the system, we have now, I mean, I should be top 4, top 5 in the world in the normal system, but the system we have now is a bit absurd."
