Denmark’s young tennis star
Holger Rune has refuted claims
on social media that his partnership with sports brand Nike has ended. The
21-year-old is regarded as one of the most talented players currently playing
in men’s tennis in the singles category.
Despite his evident talent, Rune has been unable to produce results
on the court. A social media account on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — with the name Tennis Connected posted details about the Danish tennis star’s future with the sporting brand Nike.
The account claimed that world number four will have to look
for new sponsors in the future. “Been speaking with a few insiders and looks
like Holger Rune is done with Nike. Look for a new sponsor to debut at the US
Open potentially,” was the post from the account. In response to that, Rune rejected
such claim instantly and stated that he is very happy with the collaboration with
Nike. “Don’t know who these insiders are but they are not very good at their
job I can tell you that . I am very happy with my Nike collaboration,” he wrote.
Rune is currently taking part in the Canadian Open, where he has booked his place in the last-16 after beating Spain’s Pablo Carreño Busta in the second round in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-3. He is now set
to face Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the third round as he booked his
place in the round of 16 after beating Australia’s Jordan Thompson in straight
sets with a score of 6-1, 6-1. It will be the third meeting between the two. In the
previous two meetings, both players managed to win a match each. Their most
recent meeting between the two was during the fourth round of the French Open
earlier this year, where Zverev came out on top in a five-set thriller with a
score of 4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2.
