Former world number one Jimmy Connors’ son Brett has praised
on world number two
Aryna Sabalenka and stated that she is more consistent than
her rival Poland’s
Iga Swiatek. The 26-year-old is already regarded as one of the
best players currently playing in women’s tennis along with the Polish tennis star
in the singles category.
Sabalenka has once again established her authority in women’s
tennis as she won the US Open after beating America’s Jessica Pegula in the final
in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 7-5. It was the third Grand Slam of her
career and second this season. She also won the Australian Open earlier this
year after beating China’s Zheng Qinwen in the final in straight sets with a
score of 6-3, 6-2.
Former world number one Connors’ son Brett was recently
quoted in a report where he praised Sabalenka for her recent performances. He was
of the opinion that the Belarus’ tennis star is more consistent then Swiatek as
the Polish tennis star’s four out of five Grand Slams came at the Roland
Garros.
“Sabby [Aryna Sabalenka] is just likable like even if she
doesn’t win the match, she’s funny, she doesn’t take herself too serious, she
can laugh at herself,” he said. “She seems to do well now with when something
goes against her, she’s able to bounce back and make up for it. Last year, she
lost that US Open final to Coco and then went into Australia determined and
just kind of blew through that field, won her second Australian Open. She
wanted to probably avenge last year’s US Open kind of again and kind of rolls
through the field again. So, she’s more consistent than Iga. I think, Iga’s won
five Slams to Sabby’s three but Iga’s got four of them at Roland Garros and the
one US Open in ’22 and I think she’s only made one quarterfinal at a Grand Slam
since 2022 besides RG.”
