Diego Schwartzman put forward an inspiring effort in Sydney to defeat the Greek in three sets and propel Argentina over Greece.
It was a brilliant match between Tsitsipas and Schwartzman that featured a lot of great rallies in this very long match. It was a very important match as Argentina could clinch the tie with a win and Schwartzman certainly played like it was a super important match. Tsitsipas, while visibly agitated at times with his level, did not seem to push as hard as his opponent
That was even more evident as the match went on and his errors started piling up. By the end of the match, the Greek had more than double the amount of Schwartzman. Tsitsipas attacked relentlessly trying to shorten points as much as possible but Scwhratzman was ready for it. The speedy Argentinian stood far back and blasted away from the defensive hitting some superb winners in the match.
Tsitsipas was able to counter that rather well in the first set. He won it in the tiebreak despite having set points earlier at 6-5. In the 2nd set, he started to lose patience going for high-risk shots that did not pay off. Ultimately at 3-4, he dropped his serve and Schwartzman was able to win it 6-3. He was even less patient in the 3rd set becoming more and more frustrated.
Schwartzman remained calm and continued playing his game patiently waiting for a chance. He had many and used some of them to take the lead. Tsisipas never got comfortable with the tremendous defensive ability of Schwartzman and he was able to add another break and finish it off with 6-3.
