Sebastian Korda makes a winning start at St. Petersburg Open

American talent Sebastian Korda made a winning start at the St. Petersburg Open taking down Serdarusic in a very close match 7-6(2) 7-5.

Sebastian Korda has been one of the youngsters who continued his rise in 2021 after breaking out last year. The first major result for Korda came last year at the French Open where he reached the 4th round. Now, The American is sitting firmly inside the top 50 racking up wins. Another one came today at the St. Petersburg Open where he took down Serdarusic in two close sets.

It was a typical indoor hard court match between the two as they both were able to win their games comfortably. Both players were serving quite well and it allowed them to keep rallies short. Korda was the better player overall as he actually forced a few break points but he did not use any of them. In the tiebreak Korda once again demonstrated he was the better player winning it 7-2.

The 2nd set was another close one where once again both dominated on their serve. Neither player allowed much on their first serve but eventually, Korda found ways to keep the Croatian on the backfoot especially on the 2nd serve. Those struggles were most pronounced at 5-5 when Korda jumped out to a 40-0 lead which allowed him to break his opponent.

The American then closed it out with 7-5 to move on in St. Petersburg. A very good start for Korda who looked comfortable and sure in his game. He served great and did not allow a single break point in the entire match.
