There has been uncertainty regarding the timing of next year's Australian Open, as the pandemic has shown little sign of slowing down.

This has made travel between countries more difficult, with some nations passing more strict quarantine rules than others. Although the organizers of the Australian Open have given a tentative timeframe for their event, there is still a lot of doubt surrounding whether other tournaments will be held prior to the first Grand Slam of the year.

However, the officials of the Australian Open informed players that there would be a few events in Australia during the required two weeks that players must spend in the country before they can participate in Melbourne.

The ATP Cup, which held its inaugural edition this January, has been proposed for the first week of February. Additionally, two unnamed ATP 250 events and two unnamed WTA 500 events are also likely to be held during that week.

The Australian Open is then scheduled to run from February 8-21 2021, with another unnamed WTA 250 event occurring on the 15th of February. These events have not been confirmed but the organizers are working together to ensure there is no delay in the 2021 season.

Novak Djokovic is the defending champion for the men's singles event, whereas American Sofia Kenin lifted her maiden Grand Slam title this year when she triumphed in the women's singles event.
