The second-round line-up of the 2020 Internazionali BNL d'Italia is already shaping up as we know another two successful players from the first round. Denis Shapovalov and Dusan Lajovic were dominant in their first-round performances and will play the second round in Rome.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina had a good start of the tournament in Rome when he succeeded in all three qualifying matches. However, in the first round of the main draw, he faced Dusan Lajovic. Although the Serbian was not successful in any of the three appearances after the ATP Tour suspension, he showed a great performance in Rome. Lajovic defeated Davidovich Fokina in an hour and 44 minutes 6-4, 6-4 and advanced to the second round.
The twelth-seeded Denis Shapovalov took on clay-court specialist, Guido Pella in his first-round match. Although there was no real favorite of this match due to the surface which is more preferred by the Argentinian, Shapovalov showed a performance as if he was playing on the hardcourt and triumphed 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 27 minutes.
In the second round, he will take on Pedro Martinez, who came from the qualifying in Rome and also triumphed comfortably in his first-round match. The Spaniard defeated Sam Querrey 6-3, 7-6(3).
