The champions will be crowned at the 2020 Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Monday as Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep are just step away from winning the title.

While the women’s final at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome will see the two highest-seeded players battle each other, it won’t be true for the men’s final. Although the first-seeded Novak Djokovic reached the final, Rafael Nadal didn’t and so the final line-up looks different for men.

However, the day will start with the women’s final. The first-seeded Simona Halep will take on no. 2 in Rome, Karolina Pliskova. It is the second final in a row for the Czech player as she triumphed in Rome the last year. For Halep the story was different, she lost already in the second round to the Pliskova’s semifinal opponent this year, Marketa Vondrousova.

However, the Romanian also knows how it feels to play final in Rome when she lost to Elina Svitolina back in 2018. But it won’t be only about the experience from previous finals this time. Both players are entering the final in a very good form and it’s very difficult to predict the winner. Although Halep leads H2H 7-4, Pliskova got the last two victories and most of the matches were played on the hardcourt.

In the men’s final, the story will be a bit different. Novak Djokovic will be facing Diego Schwartzman. The Argentinian defeated Rafael Nadal and is in a stunning form in Rome. On the other hand, Djokovic keeps showing his high-quality tennis and marched through the tournament as he usually does.

The Serbian also leads H2H 4-0 but Schwartzman already showed that this statistic doesn’t mean anything when he defeated Nadal after losing the previous 9 matches. Moreover, looking closer at the numbers, Djokovic defeated Schwartzman twice on the hardcourt Grand Slam tournament without losing a set.

On the other hand, the other two times they met, they played on the claycourt and Schwartzman always took the match to the deciding set. First, it was at the 2017 Roland Garros when the Argentinian even led 2-1 but later lost the match. Last year in Rome, Schwartzman also forced the deciding set but again failed to win the match. The Argentinians results on clay prove that he can beat the world number 1 and claim his first title of the 2020 season, however, odds are with Djokovic.
