Sinner says, 'There are so many other players and you have to be prepared'

Italy’s Jannik Sinner believes that there is definite scope for more players to be added to the list of top players in men’s tennis. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, along with the likes of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

The both has been now considered as the perfect heirs of the former ‘Big Three’ consisting of the likes of Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Spain’s Rafael Nadal. That narrative has been further cemented with the performances of Sinner and Alcaraz this year as the two shared all four Grand Slams. Because of this, for the first time in seven years, Djokovic failed to win a single Grand Slam.

Sinner, who won the Australian and the US Open, recently spoke to Eurosport about future rivalries. The San Candido-born, who became the world number one earlier this year during the French Open after Djokovic was forced to withdraw just before the start of the quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud, stated there is definite room for more rivalries in men’s tennis as things can quickly change. Sinner used his own example as his rapid rise surprised a few in men’s tennis as well.

"I always say, there is not only me and Carlos, you know, it's very difficult to say that me and Carlos and that's it," he said. "I've showed from my side one season and everything can happen and change so fast. There are many, many great players and new upcoming players. You never know what's coming so you always have to work. Of course, Carlos is until now one of my rivals, but there are so many other players and you have to be prepared and mentally ready and physically ready to play. Things can change very, very quickly and that's why I always try to keep working and sticking to my routines to get better as a player but also as a person. I believe that everything starts with the practice sessions, with the daily routine, you know you wake up and trying to sleep good and all these kinds of things make you feel good on court."
