The teams for the upcoming Davis Cup qualifiers, set to take place from January 30 to February 2, are starting to take shape, with Spain listed as the 10th seed. However, Spain's top player, Carlos Alcaraz, will be absent from the squad.

Spain will face Switzerland at the Swiss Tennis Arena in Bienne. The 13 matchups will determine the winners who will progress to the second round of qualifiers in September, where the 7 teams will be joined by the host Italy, which has a reserved spot in the tournament.

As the players nominated by each team are revealed, Spain surprised many by not including Carlos Alcaraz. The 4-time Grand Slam champion is likely opting for a break after the Australian Open, focusing on his upcoming challenges.

It’s worth noting that Spain reached the Davis Cup Finals last year, with Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal as their singles players, but they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Netherlands, marking the end of Nadal’s career after 22 Grand Slam titles.

This time, Spain will be relying on Pedro Martinez (No. 43), Roberto Carballes Baena (No. 59), Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (No. 61), and Pablo Carreño Busta (No. 184).

Their opponents, led by rising star Jerome Kym (No. 135), will include Marc-Andrea Huesler (No. 167), Remy Bertola (No. 284), and Dominic Stricker (No. 298).
