The Australian Open is fast approaching, and the tradition of pre-tournament exhibitions is alive and well. Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Zheng Qinwen are set to headline five exhibition events leading up to the year's first Grand Slam.
Other stars joining the line-up include local favourites Alexei Popyrin, fresh off his first Masters 1000 victory at the Canadian Open, and World No. 8 Alex de Minaur. Alongside the main matches, fans can expect entertaining events like mixed doubles and “A Night with Novak.”
The most anticipated moments remain the exhibition matches, where players compete in one-set showdowns before their official tournament debuts. These matches are part of the Aussie Open Week Charity Matches, with proceeds supporting charitable organisations in Australia.
Defending champion Jannik Sinner will kick off the action on Tuesday, January 7, against Popyrin (World No. 24). On Wednesday, the focus shifts to the women’s side, featuring 2023 finalist Zheng Qinwen (World No. 5) facing Elina Svitolina (World No. 23). The day will conclude with Alex de Minaur taking on Carlos Alcaraz.
Thursday, January 9, will offer more lighthearted entertainment, including a mixed doubles matchup. Confirmed participants so far include two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka (World No. 1), Coco Gauff (World No. 3), and Alexander Zverev (World No. 2).
On Friday, January 10, two more headline matches are scheduled, just days before the tournament begins. Carlos Alcaraz (World No. 3) will face Popyrin at 5 pm, followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas (World No. 11) taking on World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
Saturday, January 11, will host a special Kids’ Tennis Day, including an exhibition session with fans at Rod Laver Arena. The line-up of stars for this event has yet to be confirmed, but it promises to be an exciting day for Australian children. The Aussie Open Week concludes with a stellar roster.
