Stan Wawrinka was able to do his job quickly and escape any major rain in Rome as the Swiss veteran took down
Ilya Ivashka 6-2 6-4 at the
Rome Open.
The prognosis for the Rome Open this week is not very good and we've already seen a delay today due to rain so that's why Wawrinka kind of rushed in this match. It worked out well for him taking only 77 minutes to beat the Belarusian Ivashka in two sets. The first set went pretty easily on the side of Wawrinka who broke Ivashka twice to win the set 6-2.
He didn't serve well at all in that set hitting his first serve only 25 % of the time but he completely outplayed Ivashka from the baseline. It kind of looked like prime Wawrinka who was painting lines on both sides of the court. 10 winners and only one error further prove how well he played in that first set.
He was quite impressive in the second set as well though this time Ivashka was able to hold his own a bit better. After the match was briefly stopped midway through the second set, Wawrinka stepped up his aggressiveness in order to avoid any major rain it worked out for him as he closed it out 6-4 in the second set.
Four aces and 24 winners overall. Onlly 7 unfored errors as well.
