Switzerland’s veteran tennis star
Stan Wawrinka has labelled
the world number one
Novak Djokovic amongst the favourites for the upcoming French
Open 2024. The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest players in the history
of men’s tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic is going through rather rough time in the ongoing season where he is yet to play in the final of any event. His most recent appearance came
at the Rome Open where he was knocked out after losing in the round of 32 to Alejandro
Tabilo in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
The second Grand Slam of the year is set to be played from
May 26th to June 09 in the French capital city of Paris. Despite
that, Wawrinka, recently quoted in a report, labelled Djokovic as one
of the favourites to lift the title at the Roland Garros. ”I think it’s still
like, of course he didn’t have the results he wanted the last few weeks but we
know how he can push his level and the way he always finds a way to play the
best tennis in Grand Slams, especially in five sets also. Of course, I still put
him as the favourite at the
French Open," he said.
