Masters 1000 QF number 13 for @steftsitsipas! The defending champion edges out Djere 7-5 7-6(1) to return to the #RolexMCMasters last 8 ⚡️
Stefanos Tsitsipas faced Laslo Djere for the 2nd time this year and for the 2nd time, the Greek emerged victorious in a very close affair 7-5 7-6(2).
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Laslo Djere both enjoy playing clay tennis and today both were enjoying playing against each other. They played a very exciting match in Acapulco earlier this year and once again it was another entertaining match. Djere was quite solid early on as he forced a break point but failed to convert.
The Serbian was very comfortable on his own serve winning points rather easily. In time his good level was matched by Tsitsipas who was finding his rhythm a bit later than usual but it still came on time to win the opening set. He forced set points at 5-4 but Djere saved them bravely. Nonetheless the Serbian started to falter and Tsitsipas finished off the job with 7-5.
The 2nd set was once again very similar to the first set. Djere was again in control on his own serve not allowing a single break point all set long with Tsitsipas having to save on early. Generally, both were playing rather well on their own serve so we ended up in a tiebreak. Tsitsipas proved slightly better as Djere could not hold the high level for the entirety of the match.
A good win for Tsitsipas who finished off the match with a 7-1 tiebreak finish. The Greek simply outlasted his opponent who could not hold the high level the entire match.
