Stan Wawrinka's stay at the
Monte-Carlo Masters is over as the Swiss player lost to
Taylor Fritz in an exciting match with the final score of 7-6(10) 6-2 for the American.
It was a pretty interesting match between these two as the start had both of them playing really well. It was only in the 8th game of the match that we saw the first break point and it was Wawrinka who had it. Fritz held his serve but was forced to do that again a couple of games later at 5-6. Those were actually set points for Wawrinka but the Swiss former champion of this event didn't use them.
The tie-break was epic in its own right because we saw 22 points and set points on both sides. Eventually, it was Fritz who got it done 12-10 and that proved crucial. Wawrinka lost the set despite not facing a single break point and his game fell apart after that. Fritz kept applying pressure and a double break in the second set sealed the deal.
Quite a stark difference in level between the two sets but overall Fritz was better. He had more aces (8 to 2), more winners (25 to 19) and fewer errors (7 to 11) in this win.
