Jiri Lehecka played a really solid match but a double fault in the second set destroyed his hopes of staying alive at the
Monte-Carlo Masters giving Fritz a good boost in the comeback win 4-6 6-4 6-1.
It was a very interesting match between two players capable of striking the ball really well. Lehecka essentially grew up on clay and has played more than Fritz on that surface but the American can hit along with the best of them. It was a good mix of things in this one with the Czech player taking the opening set 6-4.
He was simply a bit more aggressive in that opening set and it worked out in his favour. The second set was very close as Fritz took an early lead but gave it right back. After that, we saw them trade a few games without any chances. At 5-4, Fritz applied heavy pressure battling his way to a break point which a double fault converted.
Lehecka fell apart after that set getting completely smashed by the American. He wasn't as focused and missed too many balls with the American full of confidence and it showed in his play. Good comeback win for Fritz.
