America’s tennis star
Taylor Fritz has revealed that he is
struggling to overcome the disappointment after losing in the final of the US
Open. The 26-year-old is regarded as the best American player currently playing
in men’s tennis in the singles category.
He showcased his class in the recently concluded fourth and
final Grand Slam of the year, where he lost in the final to the current world number
one Italy’s Jannik Sinner in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. While
doing so, Fritz became the first American player to play in the final of the US
Open in 18 years.
The last American player to did that before Fritz was the
former world number one Andy Roddick who lost in the final at the Flashing Meadows
in 2006 to Switzerland’s legendary tennis star Roger Federer. Fritz was
recently quoted in a report where he explained how difficult it has been to
overcome a defeat in the final of the Grand Slam. The San Diego-born star revealed
that he spends most of the day playing video games and eating unhealthy food.
"To be honest, I feel probably worse than I would have
expected to feel if you told me I was making a Slam final,” he said. “I have
been sitting at my desk, playing video games like 12 hours a day, eating pretty
unhealthy. Honestly really just destructive habits when I am by myself after a
tournament. It's been so insanely hot in Florida right now like it's so hot. I
got to the point at the end of practices where like swinging the racquet was
making me just absolutely gassed. Like I was about to pass out. Like I said I
have been in my room playing video games for 12 hours a day but when I walk
outside, two blocks, to go to the Chipotle or Starbucks across the street, yes
I have been, I have definitely noticed a little bit different.”
