Benoit Paire announced his indefinite break from tennis after his loss to Lorenzo Sonego in Stuttgart which was the final straw for the Frenchman.
Paire has been in the news a lot of times in the past two years but mainly due to shocking behavior on the court than good play. At times he would show a glimpse of his talent which has never been the question. His commitment and fiery personality was the issue more times than not. Things escalated after the pandemic with is an overall record of 14-34 in 2021.
This year it's been equally poor with 6-18 on the season. After losing to Lorenzo Sonego in Stuttgart Paire posted a story on Instagram with the caption "Tennis break for an indefinite period". The message was written in French and showed a picture of a frustrated Paire.
It's not a retiremnet but more so a break after another loss. He explained his frustration earlier in the year admitting that things simply don't work in matches. He practices and plays well but in matches, he simply can't play at a high level. It's unclear when he will return to tennis.
