Tennis gender pay gap shown with comparison between Serena Williams and Roger Federer during illustrious careers

A lot of attention has been brought to the forefront regarding the gender pay gap in tennis, and the difference in earnings can be seen when comparing tennis legends Serena Williams and Roger Federer.

There is a staggering difference of $780 million between both players, and this amount will leave little doubt as to the state of the current discrepancy in gender salary.

Sportico recently released a list of the highest pad athletes, and Serena Williams was the only woman to make the list. Federer made the top 10, whereas Williams came in at 38th on the list. The monetary difference between both players was $780,000,000, with The New York Times saying the top 100 female players earn only 80 cents for every dollar earned by the top 100 male players.

At the 2015 Western & Southern Open in Ohio, Serena Williams received $495,000 for winning the women's tournament title, while Roger Federer earned $731,000 for winning the men's title. This means that Federer earned about 48% more money than Williams, even though both players won their respective tournaments.

In a different report by Forbes, Serena Williams has earned approximately $94.8 million in prize money. That's nearly double the amount earned by any female athlete. Conversely, Federer is said to have earned more than $130 million in prize money.
