World no. 1 Novak Djokovic has no doubts, tennis will remain in great hands once he and his closest rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal retire!
Djokovic spoke about the upcoming generation and their desire to challenge the top rivals at Major events. Novak mentioned Dominic Thiem, who stole a Major from him and Nadal last year, predicting a similar scenario in the years to come.
Novak kicked off the season with a tight 7-5, 7-5 victory over Denis Shapovalov at the ATP Cup on Tuesday, serving well and stealing the youngster's serve once in each set to bring a much-needed victory for Serbia.
"It's great for the sport that we have new Major champions. We have new successful young players showing courage and boldness, coming into the biggest stadiums in sport, willing to take on the biggest challenge in facing Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and me, and fighting for the biggest title.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Denis Shapovalov and Matteo Berrettini are a few of them that have come very close. They have huge potential, and there's still a lot of time ahead of them. You have a lot of players to look upon, and I think the future of tennis is in good hands, without a doubt," Novak Djokovic said.
