The comeback draws closer: Carlos Alcaraz shares major wrist injury recovery update in encouraging training video

A sight that tennis fans have been patiently waiting to see. Carlos Alcaraz has stepped up his recovery following a devastating wrist injury that has kept him out since mid-April. His most recent video has shown him hitting the ball with a lot more power in a competitive rally with his right arm. A huge step in the right direction.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion would not have pictured his season to go like this. Following becoming the youngest career Grand Slam champion after triumph in Melbourne, he would win the Qatar Open ahead of a Sunshine swing where he failed to make the final of any of the Masters 1000 tournaments.

He would lose to his only contest against arch rival Jannik Sinner in 2026 in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters before his clay swing was dealt a huge blow.

A sharp pain was felt in his right wrist in the opening match of the Barcelona Open on home soil. He soldiered on to win but would pull out of the tournament and the rest of the clay swing, including the title defences at the Rome Open and Roland Garros. No action on grass led to concerns about the severity of the injury, and with the North American hardcourt swing fully underway, there is still no sign of Alcaraz competing.

Alcaraz has regularly been showcasing his recovery progress on his Instagram page along with a lot of his daily life through snapshots.

He began by keeping his fitness and sharpness up to an extent by not using a racket before switching over to his left hand. Soon enough he was able to hit with his right hand again, but very delicately and lightly from a close range, bouncing off the wall in front of him.

While attending the World Cup final, in which his native Spain come out on top, Alcaraz was spotted by the keen-eye of many tennis fans with a wrist support on. Whether a precaution or a sign that he was not close to a return, his comeback date has been shrouded with mystery.

His latest video inclines the view that it will not be long before the World No.3 makes the trip back to competition. Hitting the ball with a decent amount of force while moving freely, the 30-second video was met with wave upon wave of support and relief by tennis fans who cannot wait to see him compete at the highest level once more.

After showing his intention of not participating in the Canadian Open, another brace of title defences are shortly coming up. These are the Cincinnati Open and US Open.

The Grand Slam will take priority, but depending on his match fitness and sharpness will replicate how far he can go in the tournament. Sinner is the overwhelming favourite to win both titles, in which he came runner-up to the Spaniard last year.

A staggering 3,000 points could come off if he is not careful. That would see him possibly drop further down the rankings depending on results behind him. If he is fit and firing on all cylinders, then there is the chance that he can defend those points and titles due to his calibre on court.
