Andrey Rublev was asked about the War in Ukraine at the Gijon Open and the Russian once again distanced himself from the conflict.
Rublev came out against the war a couple of times in previous months and was one of the most outspoken athletes from his country to speak on the issue. He once again came out against it in Gijon calling the situation horrible:
"Of course, it is hard and horrible to hear what is happening. As I have always said before, the most important thing is that there is peace in all parts of the world. From my position, the only thing I can do is try to show this through tennis, in interviews and on the court."
He will get his campaing underway against Ilya Ivahska, a player he knows really well:
"We know each other very well, because we are close friends and it will be a tough match. Now every tournament is important to me. We are going to see what happens, but as there are many players fighting to be in Turin (in the ATP Finals), each match is really important."
