Denmark’s tennis star
Holger Rune made an interesting
comment about the reason behind hiring the former world number one
Boris Becker
in his coaching staff.
The 20-year-old managed to bring the six-time Grand Slam
winner into his coaching team after a series of poor results in the recent
past.
Rune was recently quoted in a report where he revealed the
reason behind bringing someone like Becker into his coaching team.
“We’ve known each other for some years now and I thought
that he has great experience both with his own career, but also as a coach,” he
said. “So, we talked a little bit, and we had a great practice week in Monaco,
and here we are.
“It was my own decision to look around to see what I thought
would fit me. I feel like I thought this would be good and it turned out to be
good. So I’m very happy and pleased with that.”
“I think that’s important. You cannot have me [with] one
opinion, he’s another opinion, you have to go in the same direction and that’s
what we’re doing.”
Earlier, Rune's mother admitted that there were clashes of ego between the coaching staff and her son.
“There were ego clashes between the coaches," she said. "The team that worked in the clay season suddenly doesn’t work now. Ego clash again? I don’t know.”
Rune is currently
taking part in the Paris Masters where he is due to face Austria’s Dominic
Thiem in the round of 32 clash on Wednesday.
