Dominic Thiem said his match against Monfils is his best so far in the current Australian Open campaign. Thiem put in a dominant performance as he cruises past Monfils in three sets to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the first time.
The current world no 5 said the match wasn't as easy as the score [6-2, 6-4, 6-4] suggested. However, he's delighted at having progressed to the next stage of the tournament.
“I think that I played my best match so far of this Australian Open. A very, very good feeling,” Thiem said.
"The score looks way easier than the match was. I think I was lucky to make an early break in each set and then was managing to hold my serve well. I’m so happy because I’m for the first time in the quarter-finals here.”
Thiem will play current world no 1 Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal.
