Not the way I wanted to end my tournament in Montpellier tonight . Hope to be back soon #healthfirst
Following his short-lived partnership with Swiss coach Severin Luthi, Aneke Rune, mother of Danish tennis star Holger Rune, has shed some more light on the thought process behind their decision to work together.
Luthi began working with Rune in December 2023, but parted ways with the Danish youngster soon after Rune's second-round loss at the 2024 Australian Open. Luthi had been a part of Roger Federer's coaching team since 2007, assisting the 20-time Major champion in his ascent up the ATP Rankings and quest for Grand Slam glory.
Rune began working with Luthi at the end of the 2023 season, as the Swiss coach had stopped coaching Federer when the former World No.1 retired in 2022. Aneke Rune admitted Holger and his team were swayed by Luthi's experience with Federer, and believed the partnership would work as they seemed to be a good fit.
"Holger had the dialog with Severin also so it was easy to ask him if it could be interesting and obviously he has huge experience from Roger so we thought, and the chemistry was good, so it looked like a perfect fit," said Aneke Rune. "Things are not always as easy as they look on the paper though, but it was a good try."
