Former World No.1
Daniil Medvedev cannot seem to escape late-night match finishes, a theme that has been criticized by
Rennae Stubbs, former coach of tennis great Serena Williams.
The Russian was again involved in another late-night thriller at this year's
Roland Garros. Medvedev kicked off his French Open campaign by overcoming German
Dominik Koepfer, digging deep into his reserves to produce a five set victory after three hours eight minutes. After blowing a two set lead, Medvedev would have to halt a Koepfer comeback, leading to the match ending at 12:29 am local time.
This is not the first time the Russian has been involved in a late finish at a Grand Slam event. Earlier this year, Medvedev experienced a late-night finish. The World No.5 defeated Finland's Emil Ruusuvuori in four sets, although the match would finally end at 3:40 am local time.
Following his Roland Garros victory, Stubbs would express her disappointment at Medvedev's scheduling issues. The Australian took to social media to voice her frustrations on the Russian's behalf.
"Once again @DaniilMedwed finishing after midnight! This dude gets the worst schedules 😂 .... But he just keeps chugging ," wrote Stubbs on Twitter.
