Tickets for the exhibition match featuring Serbia’s
legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic were sold in less than 10 minutes. The 37-year-old
is regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open
era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles in his illustrious career.
As per the recent report, tickets for an upcoming exhibition
match between Djokovic and
Grigor Dimitrov were sold in less than 10 minutes.
The game will be played in Bulgaria on September 17th at the Arena
Sofia. Interestingly, Djokovic has never played an ATP match in Bulgaria but remains a hugely popular figure. Dimitrov also remains a very popular figure locally.
The report stated that the arena can host 11,000
people for the exhibition match. The event will take place to generate funds
for the Grigor Dimitrov Foundation. Djokovic recently participated in the Paris Olympics, where he won the gold medal for his country after beating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6. It was Djokovic’s
first-ever gold medal in the mega-event, and with that, he has now completed his
trophy cabinet.
The Belgrade-born star is currently taking some time after participating
in the Paris Olympics. On the other hand, Dimitrov will participate in the
ongoing Cincinnati Open, where he will play in his first encounter on Thursday.
Both Djokovic and Dimitrov have faced off 13 times in professional tennis. The
former world number one has a clear edge in those clashes as he won on 12
occasions and suffered just a solitary defeat. Their most recent outing was
during the Paris Masters in 2023 where it was Djokovic came out on top in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3. Dimitrov’s only win over Djokovic came
in 2013 during the Madrid Open when he emerged victorious with a score of 7-6, 6-7,
6-3.
