Former World No.3
Grigor Dimitrov has released a statement stating he will be taking a temporary break from tennis due to an injury suffered during his fourth round
Wimbledon clash against
Daniil Medvedev.
The Bulgarian was forced to retire in his match against Medvedev, competing in just eight games before he could no longer continue. Dimitrov had suffered a nasty fall after just five games into the opening set. Although he attempted to soldier on, he was unable to finish the set, walking up to the net at 3-5 to concede the match to his opponent.
Dimitrov gives update on social media
The 33-year old received a standing ovation as he left Centre Court, but was understandably visibly frustrated. He took to social media a few days later to inform fans of his condition and future plans.
"Hi Everyone- I wanted to give a little update on my end," Dimitrov wrote on Instagram "After some tests and scans my doctor informed me that I have an abductor tear in my left leg.
"I am going to take a little time off, but am already starting on the rehab. Can't thank you all enough for the nice notes of support over the past weeks. Looking forward to getting back out there!"
