Pablo Carreno Busta had to endure a very hard push from Sonwoo Kwon at the Winston-Salem Open to move on 6-3 4-6 6-4.
It was a very fierce battle between top seed Pablo Carreno Busta and Sonwoo Kwon with the Spaniard barely squeezing past the South Korean. Carreno Busta played his game, a very methodical and deliberate style of tennis that usually yields results against worse opponents. It did so today but it went on longer than he would have liked.
The first set was largely defined by serving as Carreno was able to serve better than his opponent. Kwon had trouble hitting his first serve which allowed Busta to expose his lacklustre 2nd serve. The South Korean won only 3/15 of those points and that doomed him as he bowed out 3-6.
In the 2nd set, he came out much stronger as his serve improved and that resulted in higher confidence overall. He outplayed Busta in all facets of the game especially when the Spaniard missed his first serve and that was enough for a 6-3 2nd set win.
The final set was another interesting one that saw a fierce battle between the two players. Carreno showed he was overall the better player once again exposing Kwon's 2nd serve for the majority of the set. However Kwon was able to withstandinf until very late in the set when he finally collapsed 4-6.
