Former world number one Andy Roddick was left impressed by Nick Kyrgios and his form in North America ahead of the US Open.
Roddick works as a frequent tennis pundit for the Tennis Channel and speaking on the Australian following his loss to Taylor Fritz, Roddick admitted that he found it really impressive how he handled the brutal week in Washington:
“It’s a big, big deal to me that he goes into Washington, which is a pretty big event in the lead-up to the US Open. Brutal conditions….To go through singles and doubles and not to tap out mentally or physically is a big, big sign. I think it puts him into the top two, maybe three, favourites for the US Open.”
As Roddick noted, that sort of play puts him as one of the favourites for the US Open. Amazon Prime pundit Greg Rusedski is a bit concerned after the way he unravelled against Fritz but he was rather tired by his own admission.
Rusedski said:
“It did unravel. You can hear the boos around the stadium. They don’t feel like he gave it his best effort out there and we’re hoping the knee isn’t too serious but he’s got to show more. He’s improved out of sight but physically he’s got to get stronger. You’re worried about the knee physically. It’s a lot easier to do on grass courts than hard courts.”
