Stefanos Tsitsipas Australian Open 2021
Stefanos Tsitsipas became only the 2nd player to ever come back from 2-0 against Nadal at a Grand Slam and after the match he was speechless.
Immediately following his sensational comeback victory Tsitsipas took part in the on-court interview and he struggled to convey his emotion into words:
“I have no words to describe what has just happened on the court, my tennis speaks for itself. It’s an unbelievable feeling to fight at such a high level and leave it out on the court. I started very nervously. I don’t know what happened after the third set. I flew like a bird and everything worked for me.”
An indeed Tsitsipas looked very nervous in the opening sets and especially towards the end of the first set when he started making many errors. The 2nd set was even worse for the Greek until he settled nicely in the 3rd never looking back. He spoke about his thoughts during those times:
“I focused on staying calm and holding my nerves today. I have failed to do so in some of my matches [in the past]. I stayed calm in the tight moments and I kept everything to myself. I am really happy with the attitude that I showed on the court.”
His opponent in the semifinal will be Daniil Medvedev, a player he knows very well and with whom he had some history. Speaking on that match he said he is looking forward to seeing the crowd again:
“[Medvedev] plays very well and has been very consistent, with lots of consecutive wins. I need to recover and have a good ice bath. I am looking forward to the match and each match I play here is an opportunity to play my best tennis. It will be amazing to see the crowds again.”
