World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas booked his spot in the round of 16 at the Western & Southern Open late Wednesday night, overcoming Sebastian Korda in straight sets.
The Greek star faced some difficulty in the opening set, but dominated the second to secure a 7-6(5) 6-3 victory. Although he faced a slight hiccup as he hit four double faults in the match, the second seed won 33 of 37 points on his first serve. His impeccable serving enabled him to save both break points faced, giving Korda little room to create any opportunities.
With this win, the 23-year old has booked a date with Lorenzo Sonego in the next round. The Italian defeated American qualifier Tommy Paul 7-6(9) 6-2, but lost his sole encounter against Tsitsipas earlier this year in Miami.

The whole idea of giving out wildcards is to give new & up-coming players a chance at getting as much circuit match-practice under their belts as possible. And this is a HUGE must and opportunity for these new kids on the block. Why curtail opportunities for these newbies in favour of stalwart monopoly?? That just isn't fair. At least give these lesser known players a chance to become more familiar at playing in bigger tournaments & give them also a chance of getting the crowds behind these underdogs.
