Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz has suffered
another massive blow after recent disappointing results.
The 20-year-old is often termed as one of the most highly-rated
young tennis players currently playing in the circuit alongside Italy’s Jannik Sinner
and America’s Ben Shelton.
Alcaraz remained Serbia’s tennis star Novak Djokovic’s
closest rival throughout the year but a trend in the last phase of the calendar
suggested otherwise.
As per the UTR's recent rankings, he is now fourth on the list
behind Djokovic, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev and Italy’s Sinner in the list.
That might be down to Alcaraz’s recent result where he suffered
a surprising defeat in the round of 32 of the Paris Masters to Russia’s Roman Safiullin
with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
The current world number two became the talk of the town
earlier this year as he defeated Djokovic in the final of the Wimbledon in a
five-set thrilling contest with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
Other than that, he also played in the semifinal of the
French Open — where he lost to Djokovic again, this time with a score of 6-3,
5-7, 6-1, 6-1 — and the US Open where he came second-best against Medvedev with
a score of 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
