"Very happy to win the title here" says Monfils after win in Adelaide

It's been a really good week for Monfils who usually does not play too well in Australia. At times he had solid results at the event but most of the time the Frenchman struggles on these courts. One court he does enjoy down under is the one in Adelaide. Monfils has made the city his base since 2009 for this part of the swing and he admitted as much after the win:

“It is a great tournament. I have been training here since 2009. I know the place very well, I love Adelaide and am very happy to win the title here.”

He also thanked his team for sticking with him after a very tough 2021:

“I want to say thanks to my team. We have had some tough moments, we lost a little bit of faith but we came back strong from July last year. It is amazing to play in front of you guys, to play in front of a full crowd with a good spirit and atmosphere, this is amazing.”

Couple of months ago Monfils started working with Gunther Bresnik, former coach of Thiem and since then his level has sharpy increased.
