With
Jennifer Brady finishing runner-up at this year's Australian Open and
Sofia Kenin winning last year's event, not to mention the fast-rising Coco Gauff and ageless Serena Williams, it's safe to say that the future of female American tennis is in safe hands.
However, the American men leave much to be desired. Long gone are the days of Andy Roddick, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and an in-form John Isner or Jack Sock. The current crop of male ATP stars are rather inconsistent, with the likes of Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Reilly Opelka making some noise at the ATP 250 level but failing to achieve much during Masters 1000 events and Grand Slams.
Nonetheless, there is still hope as the emergence of Taylor Fritz and the young
Sebastian Korda have people talking about American tennis again. With Korda predicted to have a breakthrough season, perhaps he will be the driving force behind the resurgence of top-tier American tennis on the mens circuit. The 20-year old is currently competing at the
Open Sud de France, where he defeated former Australian Open finalist Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the opening round.
In the meantime, here are some spectacular shots by male players, both retired and active, from the United States.
