TNT Sports was once again fooled by fake quotes—this time involving supposed statements from
Alexander Bublik after his defeat to
Jannik Sinner at
Roland Garros. The TV broadcast, now led by TNT, fell for a parody tennis account on social media.
On Wednesday night, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner dominated Alexander Bublik 6-0, 7-5, 6-1. Bublik, ranked No. 62, was an unexpected quarterfinalist and has frequently voiced his dislike for playing on clay.
He earned his place with an epic comeback against No. 9 Alex de Minaur (2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2) and then outplayed No. 5 Jack Draper (5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4).
During TNT Sports' Thursday coverage before the women’s semifinals, the panel—Coco Vandeweghe,
Sam Querrey, and Pat McEnroe—looked back on highlights, including Sinner vs. Bublik. At one point, McEnroe quoted what he thought Bublik had said in press:
“He said he’s a ‘boobie’, I think he said this before… ‘Boobie needs a vacation’.”
The crew laughed, unaware the quote came from a parody account on X called Tennis Centel, known for posting fake player quotes.
The original post (a day earlier) claimed Bublik had already booked a flight before facing Sinner: “To be fair, the guy is a robot. What do you expect of me? No chance I will win a set. I made good money this week and booked a flight to America. Boobie needs a vacation. I’ve always wanted to see the Grand Canyon.”
