Novak Djokovic to the Wimbledon crowd: "To all the people who chose to disrespect the player, in this case me, have a ‘GOOOOD’ night.” 💀 Earlier in the match the crowd was chanting ‘RUUUNE’ and he thought they were booing him
Novak Djokovic won through against Holger Rune and took aim at the Wimbledon crowd in a hilarious swipe in one of the best interviews all tournament as he let out all the anger that he bottled up during his win.
The World No.2 was bothered by booing sounds that the umpire informed him fans were saying Ruuuune a bit like the old Simpsons joke I was saying boo-urns. But in his post match interview, Djokovic lambasted the fans on Centre Court in both an awkward and hilarious interview.
He said that he knew their game and turned his attention to those who had apparently been shouting Ruuune and elongating the 'ooh' sound as if they were booing and he told them all to have a 'goooooood night'. He said it again singing it to which the fans did boo him this time.
"Well, to all the fans that have respect and that stayed here tonight, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate it, I appreciate it," he started. "And to all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player, in this case me, have a goooood night."
"They were, they were, they were. I don't accept it. No, no, no," he continued saying that it isn't an excuse that they were shouting Rune's name and said it was a trick to rile him up. I know they were cheering for Rune but that’s an excuse also to boo. Listen, I’ve been on the tour for more than 20 years so I know all the tricks, I know how it works. It’s fine, it's okay.
"There's some respectful people who paid for a ticket to come and watch tonight and they love tennis and appreciate the players. I've played in much more hostile environments, trust me. You guys can't touch me," he warned.
