Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek continued
to utilise mouth tape in bizarre training as she is preparing for the 2024
season. The 22-year-old had an impressive end to the year where she reclaimed her
top spot in the WTA Ranking.
In a video that appeared on social
media platform X—previously known as Twitter—Swiatek can be seen training once
again utilising mouth tape. She did that before the start of the US Open as
well.
However, that tournament did not go
well for Swiatek as she ended up crashing out after losing the fourth-round tie
to Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
That defeat also ended the reign of
the Warsaw-born at the top of the table in the WTA Ranking as Belarus’ Aryna
Sabalenka grabbed the opportunity with both hands and became the world number
one.
That, however, did not last long, courtesy
Swiatek’s impressive performance in the later stages of the season. She ended
the year by reclaiming the top spot after winning the last big tournament — the
WTA Finals — after defeating America’s Jessica Pegula in the final with a score
of 6-1, 6-0.
Earlier in the year, Swiatek also won
the French Open title for the third consecutive year after beating Czech
Republic’s Karolina Muchova with a score of 6–2, 5–7, 6–4.
