Daniil Medvedev and
Alexander Zverev showed no love for each other during their Monte-Carlo match with things escalating after the match with some comments.
Zverev basically called Medvedev one of the most unfair players using every kind of tricky possible to gain an advantage. He referenced Medvedev messing up his rhythm by various types of delays and Medvedev didn't really let it slide. Speaking after Zverev made those comments, Medvedev said that the two were never really close friends while also mentioning his comments about his wife.
There is some history there as Zverev strangely started to mention Medvedev's wife in speeches after matches. They played a few finals in the past few years and Zverev always mentioned Medvedev's wife. There is a connection there as Medvedev's wife is a friend of Zverev's ex Olga Sharypova who accused him of abuse.
They played in juniors together and even won an ITF event together in 2012. Medvedev's comment on all of that was:
"Just gonna say we were never rly close friends, maybe only in juniors. That's only him, in his congrats speeches, saying something like he was friends with me and my wife, which is definitely not the case since long time."
